BROOKLYN COP INVESTIGATING STOLEN CAR INJURED WHEN ACCIDENTALLY STRUCK BY MOTORCYCLE

Sunday May 16, 2010 at 1:00 PM, police officer Carlos Olmedo, age 31,of the 62nd Precinct in bensonhurst responded to a call about a mugging in Brooklyn. Officer Olmedo and his partner spotted a stolen car with three men inside.
The men ran away from the stolen car and the two cops ran into the street in pursuit of the suspects while yelling at them to stop. In a horrible accident, a passing motorcycle struck Officer Olmedo while he was in pursuit, causing him to suffer grievous injury.
Both Officer Olmedo and the driver of the motorcycle were taken to Brooklyn's Lutheran Medical Center for treatment. Officer Olmedo is in critical condition with serious head injuries, for which he was operated on.
The suspects being chased were later found and taken in for questioning.
The operator of the motorcycle faces no charges.
