RISK OF ACCIDENTS LEADS TO TOYOTA RECALL OF SIENNA MINIVANS

From: New York attorney Gary E. Rosenberg (personal injury and accident attorney and lawyer; serving Brooklyn Queens1 Bronx; Queens Injury Lawyer)

Toyota announced the recall of 600,000 Sienna minivans, from model years 1998-2010. It believes that the vans, when frequently driven in cold weather States, could pick up road salt put down after snow falls. This road salt can cause the van's (underneath) spare tire carrier cable to corrode. The corroded cable can break, causing the spare tire to drop onto the road - and a spare tire dropped onto a road by a moving van presents a hazard to other vehicles, with risk of accident and serious personal injury.

Toyota advised that it is trying to fix the problem. Meanwhile, customers are being sent notices telling them to bring their van to a dealer for inspection.

The government says it has received six complaints involving spare tires falling off Siennas; no accidents have been reported.

The recall involves two-wheel-drive Sienna minivans in the District of Columbia and 20 states: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia.
