BICYCLE RIDER KILLED IN ACCIDENT; BROOKLYN MAN CHARGED

In a fatal accident, on Wednesday April 14, 2010 at 9:30 AM a Brooklyn bicycle rider, Jake McDonaugh, was struck by a speeding van on Flatbush Avenue, near Beverly Road, in Brooklyn. He was thrown down from his bicycle, sucked under the van, and dragged.
Witnesses and bystanders tried to lift the van off the injured young man.
The cyclist died at the scene from his injuries. Reportedly, he was wearing a helmet.
Van driver Michael Oxley, age 28, allegedly ran a red light and did not have a driver's license. He has been charged with criminally negligent homicide, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving through a red light and speeding.

Other bicyclists were injured by vehicles in accidents on New York City roads on Wednesday.A second accident involved a bicyclist riding on Linden Boulevard at the corner of Schenck Avenue, in Brooklyn. He was hit by a Toyota Camry and taken to Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn with critical injuries.
A third bicyclist was struck on 24th Street and Lexington Avenue, in Manhattan, Wednesday morning. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital with assorted injuries from his accident.
